Funding Priorities

AV PTA’s primary goal for 2008-2009 is to successfully support the ongoing programs valued by our AV community.

Last year, at our October Association Meeting, members discussed and voted on three additional areas we felt worthy of additional funding:  Technology, Shade and Disaster Preparedness.

We are happy to report that a portion of our carryover funds from last year were used to purchase 24 brand new Apple computers for our Media Lab.  They were delivered last January and our Media Lab Assistant,  Mr. Cecil Smith, has been doing a wonderful job getting everything and everybody “up and running”.

We have also made great strides with our disaster preparations.  Last Spring our Executive Board was able to allocate $600 to update emergency kits for each classroom, restock food supplies and replace any product containing peanuts.  Our Disaster Preparations Chairperson, Doreen Harmon, researched products and companies and presented very workable solutions to our needs.

Our playground shade situation is one that is still unfolding.  Last year the SPUSD Board of Education and SPEF discussed funding options for all three elementary schools.  Since that time we have had a shade consultant visit Arroyo Vista and have gotten quotes regarding approximately how much a shade structure will cost.  Depending upon which solution is chosen, we’re probably looking at somewhere of up to $50,000. 

We will continue to discuss our funding priorities as our 2008-2009 school year unfolds.  Please know that all of your contributions are being applied towards maintaining our valued programs. Any additional funding, above and beyond those expenditures, will be directed towards those areas outlined by our membership.
